Sisters

I grew up with the blessing of having a sister. Her name is Nicole.

How to describe this lovely creature? (I love that endearment!) She is beautiful. She is funny, even though she doesn’t often think that she is. How often we have laughed ‘til tears streamed down our faces! We have jokes that only our families or each other understand.  She is my friend as well as my sister. We haven’t always been close, but we have always loved each other dearly.

Nicole has a servant’s heart and is always willing to help others. “She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.” (Proverbs 31: 17) She truly loves those around her and always gives her best. I hope to be as wonderful as her one day. Her walk with God is a huge part of her and her character and His light shines through so clearly. She holds on to her standards and morals, even when it isn’t the popular choice. There have been times it was very difficult to stand for what was true and right, yet she stood strong. She forgives freely those who have hurt her. I have a hard time forgiving those who have hurt me, but Nicole does it with grace and love. It’s not always easy to forgive, but she works through it and truly forgives people.

Nicole adores hats and fashion. She loves beautiful things and is wonderful at decorating. She makes her own clothes and always looks so elegant. “She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.” (Proverbs 31: 22) Nicole knows so much about vintage fashion it boggles the mind. She has so many books about hats and clothing! She has this amazing creative flair and her artwork is truly beautiful. I am fortunate to own a few pieces.

She cares about others and strives to help those who need it. “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.” (Proverbs 31:20) Nicole is this incredible woman of God and she is so strong. We have had countless conversations about God, our faith, and what we have been learning.  “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” (Proverbs 31:25) I love talking with her. Sometimes we say the exact same thing with the same inflection! Then we look at each other in surprise before laughing. As they say, great minds think alike. It is most amusing.

I love my sister so much. I love our conversations and how we can talk about anything. Spending time with her is so much fun and we laugh until tears stream down our faces. We have photo shoots where we dress up, do crazy makeup and takes thousands of pictures. It is so lively and entertaining and sometimes we even get some good pictures! She is so hilarious and entertaining.

If you have a sister, even if she isn’t a biological sister, tell her how much you love her. Sometimes they drive you crazy, but they really are wonderful to have around. They are one of your biggest encouragers and love you to bits. Sisters are such a blessing! So today, tell her how much she means to you. It might mean the world to her to hear you say it!
